Mcshin Foundation - 1%

When John and Carol Shinholser founded the McShin Foundation in 2004, they saw a need for addiction treatments in Richmond, VA. They had both been through their struggles with substance use disorders and wanted to help others facing similar challenges. John left his painting business, and Carol left her job as a lobbyist in Washington, DC, to start McShin. Their first office was in the basement of Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church, where they offered free counseling and support groups for people who were struggling with substance use disorders. Fast forward fifteen years: McShin now has over 100 recovery residence beds in Richmond and surrounding areas. They've also built a 15,000-square-foot recovery center that offers counseling services and life skills training—and it's all thanks to the generosity of our donors and volunteers! John and Carol still lead McShin today because they believe strongly in the mission of helping others find recovery from Substance Use Disorders. We're thankful for all their hard work over the past fifteen years!
